Chris Eubanks’ dream run at Wimbledon finally came to an end after a tough five-set loss against Daniil Medvedev. Despite bowing out in the quarter-finals, Eubanks has plenty of positives to take away from this grass swing. The maiden ATP title and a deep run at Wimbledon have taken him to a career-high ranking of 31. Eubanks also had a nine-match winning streak in the grass swing, by far his highest in the ATP events. Amidst all the achievements, there is one that stands crystal clear on top.

The American broke a 30-year-old Wimbledon record held by the American legend, Andre Agassi.

Christopher Eubanks breaks a 30-year-old Wimbledon record held by ‘The Punisher’

In 1992, Andre Agassi broke the record for most winners hit in a single edition of Wimbledon by hitting 316 winners. The record was untouched for over 30 years before Christopher Eubanks stepped on the courts of SW19 this year. The 27-year-old, with his aggressive game style and strokeplay, kept registering a high amount of winners in every round.

After playing just five matches in the tournament, Eubanks hit 321 winners to surpass the eight-time major champion.

Throughout the tournament, Eubanks was arguably the most aggressive player. A large number of winners are always accompanied by a large number of unforced errors. Unsurprisingly, the American had them in abundance, too. In fact, Eubanks hit a whooping 74 winners against Daniil Medvedev today in a five-set loss. However, he succumbed to the Russian’s defence, who only hit 13 unforced errors in the entire match today.

Eubanks has earned 610 ranking points from Wimbledon and the Mallorca Open. The points surge gives him an opportunity for a major US Open boost.

Eubanks is likely to be seeded at the US Open

The American is currently ranked 31st in the live ATP rankings. He does not have many points to defend in the next six weeks before the major begins. If he manages to stay in the top 32, he will be seeded at the US Open. This will ensure that the American would avoid other seeded players in the first round, thereby increasing his chances of making another deep run.
