REELZ comments on the status of MLW Underground.
Major League Wrestling has aired two special episodes of MLW Underground on REELZ in recent weeks, and the looming return of MLW Fusion has left the show’s future unclear. A new report suggests that the show’s run is coming to an end, but there’s talk of a potential second season.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that the April 25 episode, which aired the Battle Riot V match, was the penultimate episode of the season, with the May 2 edition being viewed as the season finale. However, talks are underway for a second season. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select also reported that the two sides are having discussions about bringing the show back, and MLW Fusion will premiere on May 25.
REELZ subsequently issued a statement to PWInsider, which noted that the first season has ended, but they are continuing talks about season two. The statement is as follows: “Season 1 has ended and we are continuing talks for season 2.”
When asked for comment, an official for MLW told WrestleZone that the season finale will still take place on REELZ on May 2 and also confirmed the talks for a possible second season.
Variety previously reported that MLW Underground was set to expire after ten weeks, and the premiere episode aired on February 7. In March, a live linear stream of REELZ was added to Peacock, but MLW Underground did not air to due WWE’s exclusive deal with the platform.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
