Jonathan Crews’ parents, John and Pamela Crews, were interviewed in the recent dateline episode. Here’s what we know about Jonathan’s death case.
Jonathan Crews was a 27-year-old urgent care center director from Coppell, Texas, who mysteriously passed away in his Texas apartment.
This prompted his family to take matters into their own hands to learn more. Crews were found dead from a gunshot wound while lying in his bed.
In a civil trial, a Dallas County jury determined that his ex-girlfriend Brenda Kelly was most likely responsible for his death.
N.B.C.’s Dateline episode Behind Door 813 showcases exclusive interviews with significant figures about Jonathan Crews’ death.
Who Are Jonathan Crews Parents, John, and Pamela Crews?
Jonathan Crews’ parents are John (Father) and Pamela Crews (Mother). His parents have worked hard for justice following their son’s mysterious death.
His parents raised crews in Irving, and it is reported that he also had two siblings. Jonathan’s dad John was a lawyer and a pastor at the nondenominational Heartland Church.
Jonathan visited his grandfather in Montana in his early days, where he learned to shoot pistols. His parents were devastated when they heard about their son’s death.
The Crews family turned to Dallas County civil courts in 2016, two years after a Coppell Police investigation failed to decide whether Crews’ death on February 2, 2014, was a homicide or the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Jonathan’s then-girlfriend, Kelly, called 911 at about 11:30 pm and said Crews shot himself to prove his love to her. His mother, Pam, also testified during the trial that she wanted the story of her son’s death to be true.
Kelly stayed with the family immediately after his death but didn’t attend Crews’ viewing or funeral. Then hours after the funeral, Jonathan’s sister, Danielle Crews, who had been friends with Kelly for years, said she went crazy.

How Did Jonathan Crews Die?
Jonathan Crews was fatally shot in the chest in his Coppell apartment on February 2, 2014. His then-girlfriend, Kelly, called 911 and told the dispatcher that Jonathan shot himself to prove he loved her.
Police initially doubted the case was a homicide, per their documents, but charges were never filed against Kelly. The Dallas County medical examiner said the manner of his death remains undetermined.
On the other hand, Crews’ family believes their son was murdered. Jonathan told his friends and sister he planned to break up with his girlfriend just before his death.
Police records showed Jonathan’s body was found in his bed, his damaged phone was nestled between his mattress and the box spring, and the greased magazine of his gun was hoarded in his tie collection.
