Jeff Huard Obituary, Death – The Saint Paul Seminary respectfully recollects the life of the Reverend Jeffrey Huard and requests your prayers for his eternal rest. On Friday, the spiritual superintendent of the seminary died unexpectedly at the age of 68. Huard assumed the position of director of spiritual formation at the seminary from 2009 to 2021. Following his resignation from this leadership position, he persisted in offering seminarians routine spiritual guidance until his demise. Community members recall him as a benevolent, considerate priest who devoted a significant portion of his existence to assisting seminarians and fellow priests in their spiritual development.
Saint Paul Seminary Rector Father Joseph Taphorn stated, “We are saddened by the loss of our colleague, friend, mentor, and brother, but are equally appreciative of everything he has done for the seminary and surrounding community over the past fourteen years.” He was a devoted shepherd to numerous spirits and a spiritual father to hundreds of seminarians and priests during his lengthy ministry.A verse from our patron saint St. Paul that he frequently cited comes to mind: “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me” (Galatians 2:20). What a fitting description of Fr. Huard today!”
Huard, who was born in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1955, received his priestly ordination from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis in 1994 after attending The Saint Paul Seminary. Additionally, he assumed the roles of chaplain of the Community of Christ the Redeemer in West St. Paul (1996-99), parochial vicar of All Saints Parish in Lakeville (1994-1997), director of campus ministry at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul (1999-2007), and pastor of St. Mark Parish in St. Paul (2007-2009).
Huard was an esteemed associate of the Priestly Fraternity Association Companions of Christ, and he once presided over its proceedings.
The following are the funeral arrangements for Fr. Huard, which will be held at St. John Neumann Parish in Eagan, Minnesota: Friday, November 24th, visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., after which vespers for the deceased will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 25th, at 10 a.m., the funeral Mass will be held, followed by an interment and lunch in the parish center.
