Bottoms as large as Kim Kardashian's are not allowed in this year's Miss Bumbum contest as Brazil's most popular beauty pageant seeks a more 'classic and elegant' tone, organisers reveal.

In an exclusive sneak preview of 18 of the 27 contestants after their first photo shoot together - MailOnline saw surprisingly conservative black full-body swimsuits 'reminiscent of Brazilian women's beachwear in the 1950s'.

The world famous contest, now in its sixth year, kicks off in August, with one wannabee model representing each Brazilian state.

Among the hopefuls for Miss Bumbum 2017, in a country obsessed with the female derriere, are a medical student, a pole dance teacher, a chef and a flower shop owner.

And all of them would give it all up to be crowned Brazil's queen of sexy bottoms, securing a fast track to fame and fortune.

Over the years the competition has become known for its saucy shoots, the skimpiest bikinis and often scandalous antics as the big bottomed women battle it out to win the most public votes.

But those hoping for more of the same this year may be disappointed after organisers promised to tone down the contest's titillation factor - even setting a dress code and maximum bum size.

The new rules mean that bottoms must be no bigger than 107cm (42in) in diameter - which would exclude Kim Kardashian's 109cm (43in) backside, if she had wanted to enter.

Meanwhile, the risque behaviour which has marked previous contests - including one contestant who rode naked through a shanty town and another offering live strip teases in exchange for votes - is now firmly out of order.

And instead of G-strings and thongs, provocative lingerie and deliberate attempts to cause controversy - such as a raunchy photo shoot last year when contestants reenacted The Last Supper - this year official shoots will be 'classic and elegant' with contestants in full body swimsuits.

Miss Bumbum's founder Cacau Oliver told Mail Online: 'After five successful editions I felt the need to reach for a new audience, to show a new way to be sexy without being overtly sexual.

'I wanted to take the focus off just the bottom and judge women on their other attributes like her face, skin, breasts.

THIS YEAR'S CONTESTANTS

MailOnline was given an exclusive sneak peak at 18 of the 27 women competing to become Miss BumBum 2017.

The voluptuous women look surprisingly conservative in black full-body swimsuits in the first official photo shoot.

While most are dancers and models, women from all walks of life have entered for a chance to claim the prestigious title.

I would like people to see the contest differently, like they would a beauty pageant and not just who has the best bottom.'

He added that from next year the competition would move to Brazilian TV, hence the need to be more respectable and better behaved.

Others, however, believe that the contest will lose its appeal if the women are no longer allowed to dress or behave in the way which has won it fans around the world.

For last year's Miss Bumbum winner, the competition has certainly lived up to its promise. Erika Canela, the pageant's first black queen, became an overnight star in Brazil, and last month starred in Portugal's Big Brother TV show.

She is also on the cover of this month's Playboy magazine in Portugal and in January she also posed naked for Playboy in Venezuela.

She also made headlines after saying Kim Kardashian's butt was 'horrible'. And her predecessor, Suzy Cortez, was featured on the cover of 37 publications around the globe.

Those hoping to follow in their footsteps this year include Suelen Vaz, representing Rio de Janeiro, who as well as owning a flower shop, has spent £15,000 on plastic surgery to try to look like her idol, Kim Kardashian.

Suelen, who became a mother aged 16, says she entered the competition to show that not all woman with a 'big bottom' are stupid. She said: 'Some are intelligent, independent and altruistic.

'I work seven days a week, I live well on what I earn and I use my money to help people who need it, like old people's homes, street people, abandoned dogs. I even give blood.'

Pietra Maya, 32, representing the southern state of Parana, is studying drama but also teaches pole dancing.

She said taking part in Miss Bumbum was 'my dream coming true. I feel prepared, physically and emotionally, to compete against the most must beautiful women in the country.

This year will have women who are strong and intelligent, while will mean a fierce dispute.

But that's what I like.' Professional chef Bianka Cabral, 26, meanwhile, was the 'muse' of Brazilian football club Vasco and has already posed naked for the country's Sexy magazine.

Representing the northern state of Tocantins, she says on her site that she 'adores her provocative curves which make her admirers go crazy, while assuring everyone that her bum is natural, shaped like a heart and is always commended by everyone.'

She adds that her strategy in Miss Bumbum is to 'give the best of herself, be honest, and not step on anyone to win.'

Another contestant, samba dancer Rangel Carlos, 23, recently revealed she is in a polyamorous relationship with both and man and a woman, and the three are raising a child together.

This year's competition also features a non-Brazilian contestant for the first time, American Jeni Summers, 29, a Playboy bunny.

She said: 'I'm really nervous. I don't know how I'm going to be received by the other contestants. I also got scared when I saw the butts of the Brazilians who are taking part, which are not normal.'

Meanwhile curvy Gilliane Bonheur, 24, hit headlines after vowing to remove her silicone bum implants so she doesn't have an 'unfair advantage' in the competition.

And despite trying to keep away from scandal this year, Miss Bumbum has already been at the centre of controversy, after organisers eliminated contestant Amanda Sampaio, a transexual who hid from the competition that she hadn't had sex change surgery.

Over 17 million Brazilians voted in the Miss Bumbum competition last year, making it the country's most popular beauty pageant.
